managing-timeLife can be stressful and chaotic, and in today’s noise ridden world, it’s a wonder we all aren’t running around balding and grey. A guy needs to manage his time effectively in order to balance life, romance, and school or work. With so many things going on, it’s hard to know where to begin managing your time. Relax, time management is really not so hard.

It’s easiest to think of it in steps like Identifying Priorities, Identifying Time Wasting, Figuring out a Plan of Action, and Understanding yourself and your time. Once you have these down, you should be well on your way to having a well managed schedule and a new sense of relaxation.

Identifying Your Priorities

First of all, when it comes to managing your time you have to figure out what is most important. Think of everything you spend your time on and from there make a list in order from most important to least important.

Creating goals is a great way to make more time for things you need more time with, and to eliminate big time wasters. Most people’s list includes things like family, friends, work, school, and personal time. What your list says is going to be completely different from your buddy’s though, so look to yourself to find out what needs the most time, and what can do without the extra effort.

Keep in mind, what is going to be most beneficial to you? What do you get out of each thing, and which of those benefits are most important to you? This will help you decide what to put first.

Identifying Your Biggest Time Wasters

Wasting time is a problem a lot of us have. Whether our time is wasted on our Myspace or Facebook, watching television, or even just sitting around playing video games, we need to be able to pin point exactly what we are doing with the time we aren’t spending effectively.

If you think that you aren’t spending enough time on schoolwork, than try and figure out what you are spending your time on instead. What time of day should be spent on schoolwork, and what are you doing during that time?

Understanding what you are wasting time on will help you to organize your time better, and make for wiser spending of your time.

Figuring Out Your Plan of Action

Deciding how you are going to avoid your time wasters and make more time for the important things can be difficult, which is why you should break it into sections. One, set aside specific time just for time wasting. If you are bouncing back and forth from wasting time to working you will end up stretching everything out, and you won’t get all of the time wasting out of your system. This will only make it to concentrate when duty calls.

Don’t be unrealistic, time management doesn’t mean all work all the time. You need time to relax and wind down after being busy, so make sure you pencil that into your schedule. All guys’ need a break now and then, so don’t try and skip out on rest. Skipping rest only leads to a tired man, which isn’t very productive.

Understanding Yourself and Your Time

Now that you have your steps all figured out, it’s time to tie it all together. First, make a to-do list and do it in order of importance and urgency. What needs to be done first, what can wait? Set your deadlines, and more importantly, follow them.

Know yourself and know what you need to do, if this means doing the harder things first, then do the harder things first and most importantly don’t allow yourself to procrastinate. Something that can help is getting the hard stuff done first, leaving yourself the pleasant things at the end. This way you can breeze through the end of your project, rather than starting pleasant and ending with a sour taste.
